Patrick Janson-Smith - Chairman at Greyhound Literary

Patrick Janson-Smith is chairman of Greyhound Literary. He was described by Publishers Weekly as ‘one of the most popular figures in modern British publishing’ when he retired in 2014. We were delighted when he immediately came out of retirement to become our chairman, first at Kingsford Campbell and now at Greyhound Literary.

Patrick is the son of the great literary agent Peter Janson-Smith who represented, among others, Eric Ambler, Ian Fleming and Gavin Maxwell. Patrick spent over half of a fifty-year career as Publisher at Transworld. There, he set up the Black Swan imprint and published some of the most successful authors of the era, including Bill Bryson, Joanna Trollope, Mary Wesley, John McCarthy, Jilly Cooper, Terry Pratchett, Armistead Maupin, John Irving, Andy McNab, Sophie Kinsella, Howard Jacobson and Frederick Forsyth.

He does not accept submissions.
