Sophie Calon
Sophie Calon writes to make sense of what she sees. Since training as a journalist in her hometown, Cardiff, Sophie has lived and worked in London, Melbourne, and Hebden Bridge throughout her twenties. She now lives with her husband, daughter, and their two cats on a hilltop near Hay-on-Wye, where they are bringing nature back to their farm. Sophie believes in a fairer world rooted in collective values. She has spent the best part of a decade in the human rights field, including supporting freelance journalists in crisis and advancing women's rights in the Pacific and Asia. She is happiest while writing, reading, and running in beautiful places. One of her stories was published in the anthology Tales of Two Londons, while another was shortlisted for the 2021 Wild Writing Prize. She first came to prominence when she undertook to read a woman writer from every country on the planet. She hopes that sharing her family's story will open up more conversations about how alcoholism impacts individuals and those around them.
