Shi Naseer

Shi Naseer was born and partly raised in China, spent her teenage years in Australia, and lived in Pakistan on and off since 2017. To date she has resided in nine countries and backpacked to over seventy. A mother of two, she currently divides her time between Connecticut in the US, and Punjab in Pakistan. She is fluent in seven languages.
Her debut, The Cry of the Silkworm, was released in 2024 with Atlantic Books in the UK and Allen&Unwin in Australia, and in 2025 in Bulgarian and Italian. A coming-of-age and revenge story of a young girl in turn-of-the-century China, it reveals the devastating consequences of the one-child policy.
She holds a master’s degree in mathematics from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. in black-hole physics from Harvard.
