Jonny Fox
Jonny is a young professional gardener, but he has been a very keen birdwatcher, illustrator and general nature obsessive all his life. Ever since he was young, he has pored endlessly through field guides and animal books, copying the pictures onto anything he could find to draw on and storing all the Latin names and titbits of information in his brain.
Even to this day, he looks up any time a bird flies over. Nothing brings Jonny more joy than learning new facts about wildlife and capturing them in watercolour or sketches.
As a gardener, Jonny spends all day, all year, outside, so he is totally in tune with the seasons and the comings and goings of our native bird species.
His first - but hopefully not his last – book, Men with Birds on their Heads may at first sight seem like a very silly little book. Yes, it is inexplicably funny, but it is more than that. As well as making you laugh out loud, it is also a beautifully hand-illustrated and informative field guide to our native birds, lovingly created by Jonny.
Blending natural history and eccentric character sketches, the book contains 60 watercolours of birds - and the men on whose heads the birds are perched. All the images are accompanied by humorous stories and bizarre, eye-opening, and a lot of lesser known - but true - facts.
Bloomsbury will publish Men with Birds on their Heads in September 2026.
