Neil Shearing

Neil Shearing is group chief economist at Capital Economics, the leading economic research company. He heads a team of 70 economists spread across Europe, the Americas and Asia, and is responsible for driving the firm’s research agenda as well as developing its products and relationships with clients. He is also a director of the company. Before joining Capital Economics, after taking degrees in economics at the universities of York and London, Shearing was an economic advisor to the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer at HM Treasury. He is also an Associate Fellow in the Global Economy Programme at Chatham House. His analysis is much sought after by broadcasters, podcasts and newspapers, as these testimonials attest:

"I have been following Neil's work closely for many years. He is an exceptionally sensible, clear-headed and original thinker, with an outstanding record of identifying and explaining big shifts in the global economic landscape. His book will surely prove to be essential reading."

Martin Wolf CBE, Chief Economics Commentator at the Financial Times

“Neil Shearing will deliver intelligent concision. In an elite world over-booked, over-socialed & over-averaged, he will write with a verve, a pace, and in fewer words. It is a rare skill. He will lift the reader.”

Tom Keene, Managing Editor of Bloomberg TV & Radio

“Neil Shearing is one of the most accomplished macro-economists of his generation. Not only does he have a clear grasp of the issues, threats and opportunities confronting the world economy, buttressed by a mastery of the detail across umpteen countries, but he is also an excellent communicator, both as an author and as a speaker.”

Roger Bootle, author of The AI Economy and former Group Chief Economist of HSBC Banking Group
