David Collins

David Collins is one of the UK’s most respected investigative reporters. In 2011 he became the youngest journalist in the history of the British Press Awards to win News Reporter of the Year for helping police convict the serial killer Levi Bellfield for the murder of Milly Dowler. His prison interviews with Bellfield put the killer at the scene of Milly’s disappearance. He joined The Sunday Times as an investigative reporter in 2015. Initially working as deputy editor of the Insight investigations team, his work exposed doping by Russian athletes in the World Championships and Olympic Games. The investigation won Sports Scoop of the Year and Best Investigative Team of the year at the Sports Journalism Awards in 2015. Other investigations include: No10’s cover up of a failed nuclear missile test (runner up Scoop of the Year British Press Awards in 2018); an investigation into war crimes by British special forces in Afghanistan; and the murder of Agnes Wanjiru in Kenya (which won David and Hannah Al-Othman the Paul Foot Award for Investigative and Campaigning Journalism in 2022). He is currently northern editor for The Sunday Times, based in Manchester. His first book, The Hunt for the Silver Killer, was published in May 2022 by Simon & Schuster.
